Supporting the School Break Grocery Initiative
Yale employees recently played a pivotal role in helping the United Way of Greater New Haven pack and distribute over 1,200 grocery bags in one day for local families in need. With summer meal programs ending a week before school starts, families face budget strains. To bridge this gap, the School Break Grocery Initiative was launched, aimed specifically at alleviating the pressures faced by families during this transitional period. By providing a week’s worth of groceries, the initiative offers essential support to New Haven Public School students and their families, helping to ensure that they return to school with the necessary nourishment to thrive both academically and personally.
The success of this initiative demonstrates how collaborative efforts between the Yale community and the UWGNH make a tangible difference in the community and positively impact those in need.
